Breast Cancer Awareness Month—Wear Pink and Drink Green!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a worldwide annual campaign that raises the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness, education and research.
There are many ways you can get involved and support others— Take time to talk with your family and friends, start a web campaign for a loved one or volunteer at a local Breast Cancer walk, and dress the part— WEAR PINK! Camellia sinensis (TEA) contains green tea polyphenols, EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate).
According to www.breastcancer.org research shows that in laboratory and animal studies, EGCG has been shown to limit the growth of breast cancer cells and other types of cancer cells. One study of Asian-American women found that those who drank more green tea were less likely to develop breast cancer. But much more research is needed on how green tea consumption may influence breast cancer risk.
EGCG, the primary polyphenol in green tea, may reduce the risk of breast and other cancers. Steeping Green Tea in boiled water releases the EGCG’s. These compounds serve as natural antioxidants that may prevent cell damage that can lead to cancer.
About 3 to 4 cups per day is recommended. Green tea has up to 25 milligrams of caffeine per cup — less than black tea and coffee. But if you’re sensitive to caffeine, it can make you jittery and nauseated.
